Many teaching, research and engineering organisations in the rapidly expanding ocean research sector do not have ready access to wave testing facilities for their testing. Wave testing facilities require large space, and high capital to justify long, once-off design and build capital projects.
That is why OMEY Labs have developed a range of wave flume products to complement the high-end wave basins, and making wave testing affordable to researchers.
Advantages of OMEY Wave Tank
OMEY have developed a single-design product range to best meet most needs of ocean research laboratories. It is low-cost, because the design and manufacturing process is repeated and refined. Versatile because it is modular and movable.
SCALE & DIMENSIONS
The wave tank dimensions are selected for the best use of standard materials, manufacturing and transport constraints, while still meeting most wave flume test needs. The design is nominally pitched in the range of 1:50th to 1:100th scale of North Atlantic seas, with working width of 2.5m, and nominal working depth of 1.3m. Being modular, any tank length can be setup.
CONVENIENCE
The tank modules are designed for convenience, and versatility. Tank modules are shipped from stock, by shipping container. Once on site the modules can be on loaded by conventional (2T) forklift and moved into place.
The modules fit through most conventional double doors. Each module incorporates steel feet to distribute the weight of the full tank adequately for most concrete floors (0.12MPa).
The wave maker requires a conventional single phase 240v AC or three phase 208v power supply.
The tank product design uses material combinations that are optimal for durability, longevity and cost.
To create a robust, movable product, the tank modules are constructed from high grade 4mm steel, continuous welded. Metal is coated with a high grade marine epoxy coating (Sigma400TM) appropriate for total emersion and versatile enough to allow damage repair on-site.
For clarity of visualisation OMEY tanks incorporates glass windows (1m high) for the full length of the tank, as standard. The glass (Pilkington OptifloatTM) is toughened to resist abrasion for clarity of viewing and measurement (laser, photographic). It is also laminated for safety.
REUSABLE
Tank modules are joined by a simple bolted flange and seal. OMEY uses pure silicone rod gripped between flange faces to form a reliable, and reusable seal.
Modules can be unbolted, moved and reassembled in a matter of hours, any number of times.
